Create Something Unique Through Art

Normandale student Abby Sunde drawing an art project

At Normandale, we believe art is for everyone. We foster each student’s individuality and growth through associate in art degree programs that embody both excellence and value.

You can take studio courses in drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, digital media, as well as art history. Art courses are intended to give a well-rounded foundation in the arts.

As an art student here, you have transfer pathway degree options. There are two transfer art programs available, depending on what path in art you choose to take. Both require 60 credits and once all requirements are complete, you will be able to transfer to a four-year Minnesota State university as a junior.

Art Transfer Pathway (AFA)

  • A pre-professional art degree intended for entrance into a BFA program
  • A capstone exhibition is required
  • 40 credits in art courses and 20 credits to fulfill MNTC requirements

Art Transfer Pathway (AA) with Emphasis in Art

  • A liberal education degree with an emphasis in art intended for entrance into a BA program
  • No application required
  • 40 credits to fulfill MNTC requirements and 20 credits in art courses

The art department is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). This makes Normandale one of the top community colleges with art programs.

Normandale student Abby Sunde discusses the benefits of earning an associate degree in art.

"The faculty here are just amazing. You really get that one-on-one time, and they foster a community experience in the classroom that helps the learning. The attention and dedication they give are incredible, and they also have accomplished careers in the field.”
